CHRISTOPHER JACKSON

Christopher Neal Jackson, born on September 30, 1975, in Metropolis, Illinois, is a distinguished American actor, singer, musician, and composer. Raised in Cairo, Illinois, he was nurtured in a musically inclined household by his mother, Jane Adams, a vocal music teacher. His early exposure to music and theater, coupled with encouragement from mentors during his high school years, set him on a path toward a vibrant career in the performing arts. 

Early Life and Education

After graduating from Cairo High School in 1993, Jackson pursued his passion for the arts at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. This foundational education paved the way for his entry into the professional theater scene. 

Broadway Breakthrough

Jackson's professional journey began in 1995 with the Off-Broadway musical Time and the Wind by Galt MacDermot. He made his Broadway debut in 1997 as part of the original cast of Disney's The Lion King, initially serving as an ensemble member and understudy for the role of Simba. He later assumed the role of Simba, showcasing his versatility and vocal prowess. 

His collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda began with In the Heights, where he originated the role of Benny. This partnership continued with Hamilton, where he portrayed George Washington, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. His performance in Hamilton was also featured in the 2020 Disney+ film adaptation.

Television and Film Career

In addition to his stage work, Jackson has made significant contributions to television and film. He starred as Chunk Palmer in the CBS drama Bull from 2016 to 2022. His television credits also include roles in Oz, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, and And Just Like That..., where he portrayed Herbert Wexley. 

In film, Jackson provided the singing voice for Chief Tui in Disney's Moana and appeared in Tracers and the 2020 film adaptation of Hamilton. 

Music and Composition

Beyond performing, Jackson is an accomplished composer and songwriter. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song for "What I Am" for Sesame Street. His songwriting talents extend to collaborations with artists like LL Cool J, Sean Kingston, and will.i.am. In 2021, he signed a deal with Nickelodeon to compose music for the animated series Rhymes Through Times, which focuses on Black history. 

Personal Life and Advocacy

Jackson married actress and singer Veronica Vazquez in 2004, whom he met during the production of In the Heights. They have two children, a son named C.J. and a daughter named Jadelyn. The family resides in Scarsdale, New York. Jackson is an advocate for KultureCity, a nonprofit organization promoting acceptance and inclusion for individuals with sensory processing needs. 

Recent and Upcoming Projects

In June 2025, Jackson returned to Broadway in the role of Davis in the musical Hell's Kitchen, featuring music by Alicia Keys. His decision to return to the stage was influenced by his desire to reconnect with live theater and share the experience with his daughter, who had not previously seen him perform on Broadway.
